I'm lucky enough to call Cape Town home and am currently working as lead digital and print designer at Afrozaar.
I began my design career as an enthusiastic Junior Graphic Designer in London, being mentored and trained as part of a small, yet talented design studio team. The following year I moved to Cape Town and entered the media industry, working as a designer for various magazines for the next three years. In 2012, an exciting opportunity took my partner, Duncan and I to San Francisco, where I studied part time courses in Web Design and User Interation at the Academy of Arts University. Since moving back to SA, I've gained more experience in the digital design space and spend a lot of my time designing mobile apps and websites, yet still maintain a passion for print and layout design. I also take on a variety of print freelance design projects.
Two of my passions are magazine layouts and iOS apps. I love working on magazines as I enjoy the process of bringing across the personality of a story or brand in a magazine layout. Crafting a personal experience in iOS and working in the evolving tech world keeps me on my toes.
"Design is intelligence made visible" - Lou Danzinger
I graduated from Rhodes University in 2007 with a 4 year Bachelor of Journalism degree with distinction. I've been asked many times about how I landed up being a designer, and not a journalist. I specialised in my 3rd and 4th year in Communication Design which involved intensive courses in the design field. It's something I've become extremely passionate about and can't imagine doing anything else. I believe that understanding the process of "creating content" helps me as a designer better able to create user experiences.
